Issue: Name Spelling Difference in Academic Record and Passport/National ID Card

Dear All, Please help !

I have an issue that my 1st name on my all academic records (Secondary, Higher Secondary, Bachelors and Masters transcript / certificates / degree... etc) has name 'OMER' and father name is 'AHMED' where as my passport and National ID Card has the name 'OMAR' and father name is 'AHMAD' (underlined the difference).

What is the best option ?
1- Should I change my name spelling on Passport/National ID Card ? or;
2- Should I change my name spelling on my all Academic Transcripts, Certificates and Degrees ? or;
3- Make NO CHANGES in any of the above two options and just provide an Affidavit for such difference ?

just go with the one and same person affidavit. No need to change NIC and passport but that would be a huge hassle. At worst, if you want maybe you can ask your academic institute to issue you a new transcript and degree with the correct name.

The affidavit should take care of the academic record since you will mention that in the section for "any other names used".

Option 3 is the way to go.

Ok. Please correct me if im wrong.

So an affidavit will be stating that the academic documents and personal documents (Passport/NIC) have different name spellings belongs to the same person !?

No, look up one and same person affidavit on this forum.

In your application when they ask you if you have ever used any other names then you say yes to that question. For other names tell them that Omer Ahmed with an 'e' has been used. In all other areas use your official name that you have on the passport.

The one and same person affidavit will basically be an oath that Omar Ahmed and Omer Ahmed are the same person. You will then have it notarized and submit it with your application.
