For those of you who have just become canadian citizens, does your wife have her last name followed by your last name on her canadian passport (like "MOSCONE sp SMITH")?

It depends on what the spouse applies for.

If they choose to adopt spouse's name alone, then that. If add it to their maiden name for dual names then that. Or remain under maiden name. Entirely a matter of choice.

There is no abbreviation like sp to indicate spouse status though.

in that case, should we notify the departmentas the abbreviation SP would appear on her citizenship oath and passport apparently?

What do you mean 'would' appear? IRCC won't add it to her name as filled in on the forms. It also depends what the documents submitted show as being her name.
