Hi all, a friend of mine who is a Christian missionay has just received his PR and has landed in Canada. However he is considering of staying in the missionary field and being sent by a Canadian based Christian church. Is there any immigration policy for him to be able to fulfill his PR obligation in another country as a missionary sent by a Canadian church?

Thanx!!!

There is an immigration policy if he is working for a Canadian company and is being transferred to a foreign country. He needs to contact immigration and find out if the church qualifies under that.

Thank you Leon for your quick response! As you mention about contacting immigration, would you happen to know any lead to which he should contact within the immigration department? I assume that it is a very big organization and there is an offiice within it that can address my friend's question, the question is, which one or who to contact with. Many thanx to you again for your information!!!!

The only lead is really the call centre. The agents there are supposed to know about this or at least should be able to forward the call or tell you where you can find this information but sometimes they make mistakes. He should make the call, ask, then call again later to get another agent. If they tell him it's ok, he should write down the times and date he phoned and the names of the agents he spoke to. If both tell him that the church does not qualify, then they are probably right.

Thank you, I will relate your response to my friend and when he has a response, I will update what he finds for the forum!!!

thanx again!!!
