Is that required to update your Marital Status with CIC before spouse OWP?

Hi Guys,

Does any one know how to update the marital status? OR if it required?

I'm an international student and recently got married back in my home country. I would apply for my spouse OWP soon, but before that do i need to update my marital status ??
