IS Prior booking required before arriving?

Hello,

I had applied under General category and obtained a visa on 1 november 2011.I wish to take my family along to accompany me for my first few days in canada.It will be like a vacation for them and get an idea about things are in that part of the world which will add to their satisfaction.

Now I would like to ask if hotel booking made prior to arrival are necessary to be shown for issuance of a visitor visa. I mean I was thinking that first I get a visa and then make the booking to be on the safer side.

Anyone who's been in this situation before?

Get the visa, then make a reservation at a hotel.
