Hello,
I have a bit of an unusual situation. My husband came to Canada from the US 1.5 years ago for a post-doc. At the time, he had only US citizenship. However, his father is Canadian and was therefore eligible for citizenship. Prior to his Canadian citizenship being processed, I (also a US citizen) applied for an open work permit, which I received. This work permit is valid until Sept 2019. My husband is still a post-doc, but now also a Canadian citizen. I am planning on applying for PR along with another open work permit. My question concerns the status of my current work permit. Is it still valid?

Any help is much appreciated. I can't find an example of this type of situation in any official documents.

Yes - it's valid.

Yes, your visa is still valid. Your status with Canada according to current record stays the same unless its been overwritten with another status, say PR, Citizen etc
