VANCOUVER: May 18: A Sikh youth has been shot dead in the driveway of his posh home in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey.

Chhminder Singh Gill, a 32-year-old Sikh youth, has been shot dead in the driveway of his posh home in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey.

The local media said that 32- year-old Gill, who was killed on Sunday, may have been targeted for his possible criminal links, however, the police have not said anything about it yet.

A police spokesman said they are investigating his business links.

"We still have a lot of work ahead of us to figure out who he is linked to and what he is up to. But definitely he was the intended target of this from what we have learned so far," he told the local media.

Gill lived a posh life with wife Jasvir in a seven-bedroom home valued at $754,000. A farmer as well as a businessman, Gill had a partnership in a blueberry farm and his own independent enterprise.

One of the fastest growing cities in Canada, Surrey is home to the largest concentration of the Punjabi-Sikh community in Canada.

Violence among Indo-Canadian drug gangs here has led to more than 100 deaths over the years, forcing the provincial British Columbia Government to set up a gang task force. But it has failed to solve any of these murders.

Canada has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. So yes its pretty much a safe haven.

HMM..there is all over the world these types of things happens.from USA to India to Australia.but these are very rare incidents in canada.it is still safe.its our responsibilty to make our society and country free from all evils.

we cant judge with these types of 2 or 3 incidents wheather it is safe or not.if you are planning to move & settle in Canada thn its also your responsibilty to avoid these type of things in society.

Regards,

There are people killed in every country for all kinds of reasons. Usually, it is criminals killing other criminals but it happens, in every country, that innocent people get caught in the crossfire or happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Canada is pretty safe compared to a lot of other places.

My friend's 18 yr old son was shot in BC mistakely by the gang.

99% a common man remains untouched from violent crimes here. I believe that 1% chance is pretty good. Better than most other places. U read ONE news of such incident [moreover it could be a cartel war case], how many do u read about in your own homeland?

Is anywhere 100% safe, maybe you should not go............
