Is a long term temporary visa possible?

Hi there,

I'm a UK/Ireland dual citizen looking to move to Toronto for 1-3 years.
I work online for a company based in Singapore, and will not work for any business or organisation in Canada.

Is there something I can apply for in the middle of the 6 months visa and permanent residence visa?

maybe you do not know that UK/ Ireland are visa exempt countries so a TRV does not apply. At most the OP might get a 6 month visitor stay and then apply for extensions http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp

The main issue might be on landing declaring intentions to CBSA for any extended period especially if not visiting relatives or residents . Even if you work remotely for an offshore still will take sone persuading that you do not have some other plan in mind and doubtful more than a year as a visitor but who knows.

Alternative would be IEC program which is 2 year open work permit, 18-30 for uk or 18-35 for ireland.

You can only get 6 months at a time but before your time is up, you can apply to extend your visitor status for another 6 months and you can do this again indefinitely until they say no. It would help if you show that you have money to support yourself and that you have health insurance so that you will not become a burden on health care if you end up in an accident and can't pay your bills.

Agree with Bs65, try for the IEC visa, assuming you are still within the eligible age range. I think you can get it 2x. You might as well work for a Canadian employer (alongside the Singapore one) if you get it.
