Hello, I've read the document checklist (Country Specific - USA) several times and I do not understand the wording for #7.

"Provide birth certificates, baptismal certificates, national identity card or certificate (Cedula) where available, or other official document confirming relationship (including all pages of Household Registries) for you and each of your family members."

My husband is a US citizen and has a passport and we have our marriage license (long and short forms which name his parents). He has lost his birth certificate and I am trying to figure out if we should apply for another one.

Thanks

The passport and marriage certificate aren't sufficient, unfortunately. He needs to provide a copy of his birth certificate as well.

Is a certified copy of the birth certificate acceptable?

According to US specific document checklist. Only items 1 to 5 are to be originals along with police check. All other documents are photocopies, including birth certificate.

If you have a photocopy of birth certificate, showing both sides of the certificate, then you are fine. Don't even need to be notarized. It is hard to get a notarize copy of birth certificate if notary can't see original to confirmation.

Hope this helps.
