Hello everyone!

I am a Permanent Resident of Canada. I am planning to apply my wife's PR.

But instead of directly applying, I want her to come to Canada on TRV and once she is here, then submit her TRV.

Is it true that if I do this, she automatically gets an Open Work Permit while her PR is being processed?
If yes, how much time does the Open Work Permit takes to process? Can she work while her Open Work Permit is being processed?

Yes, if she can get a TRV approved, she can come to Canada and you can sponsor her inland.

Yes, you can submit an open work permit application with the inland application. Right now it's taking around 8 months for the OWP to be approved after the complete application package is received.

No, she cannot work while her open work permit is being processed. She won't be able to work until the OWP is approved.

Thanks, Scylla for the quick response!
I appreciate it.

Is there any way I can make it possible?
I remember, I came as a student and while my PGWP was being processed, I was able to work and gave my reference number of PGWP application.

And in order to get SIN number, I can see that the website says I can submit a visitor record as a primary document. Am I missing something?

The only way to make it possible and have her work immediately is for her to secure a job offer from a Canadian employer and for that employer to obtain an approved LMIA. She can then apply for a closed work permit before coming to Canada and start working as soon as she arrives.

Visitors are not allowed to work. That would be illegal.

The PGWP situation is completely different since you were already authorized to work as a student and then continued working on implied status.

The last sentence makes sense. For some weird reason, maybe I am making scenarios in my mind, I think I heard a story where someone told me he did what I mentioned above.

I agree with you. You are absolutely right. It logically makes sense what you said.

But I just wanna keep this thread open or some other responses.

There is either more to this story. Or this person worked illegally. Your wife won't be entitled to work until the OWP is approved. There is no alternate answer to this question.

Also be aware that approval of the TRV is probably 50/50. I would focus on that first and put together a strong application that shows strong proof of ties.
