International student not going to school till April/Study permit expires

Hi everyone,

I just had a concern about my status in Canada.
Fall semester I wasn't in Canada because I had an internship in NY/USA and it was not tide to my school program or anything.
Winter semester I'm not able to go to school due to some financial issues (mind you that international fee is not cheap).
My concern here is that should I go back to my country and come back in April, or can I stay here in Canada and work here till April?
I am enrolled in a university but I just worried that I won't be still in status.... Also my study permit expires in July.

If you are not actually studying full-time you can't work. Your university will report that you are not attending within 90 days.

You cannot stay and work while you are not in school. Your obligations as an international student come first; you must be enrolled in full-time study in order to work until April. Also, it will be tough explaining why you missed 2 consecutive semesters without a valid reason.

My plan was to do some online courses that's a bit cheaper, If I am able to prove this. Can I continue to stay here or is it that I must be able to go school/campus?

You have to be going to the physical campus for classes to be considered a full-time student

If you want to stay, you will need to convert your status to a visitor visa. You won't be able to work at all. As others have said, you must be actively attending school full time to be allowed to work.
