Hello everyone. I will soon be moving to Canada from Australia on the International Experience Canada visa. It lasts for 2 years, and is in fact renewable.

I was wondering if it was possible to, after spending 4 or more years in Canada, to extend this to permanent residency? If so, how can it be done? Thank you very much!

You would have to apply for Permanent Resident status as a separate exercise. It's not just an extension of IEC. When you have done your IEC years, you should look on the CIC web site at that time to see what the immigration routes are. Any advice given now may be worthless in a few years. However, a quick look at the CIC web site today will show you what options currently exist, such as CEC, FSW, PNP etc.

Hello OZBlackman,
I wonder how did your International Expercience Visa turned out. I realize you were trying to figure out ways to get a Permanent Residency after your first 2 years and your experience would be greatly appreciated.
I hope your overall experience turned out to be amazingly interesting.

Best Regards,
