Hello,

I got my CoPR and will be travelling to Toronto for a week to do a "soft landing" (i.e. I will fly back to Abu Dhabi without the PR Card). During this trip, a friend, who is a PR in Canada, is renting a car from Enterprise, which I will be driving as well. Now my friend's insurance covers the rent-a-car. However, for me, what is the best option other than taking the insurance directly from Enterprise? I know is thr USA you can buy motor insurance separately and its normally much cheaper.

Secondly, do I need a travel insurance for this 10 day trip? What happens if I get sick or hurt? My PR card may take 2-3 months to arrive.

Many thanks,
Gunjan

One additional info - I hold a UAE driving license, and I will be carrying an international driving license as well.

If you are planning to drive the car as well then check with your friend that you are a named driver in which case you should be covered by the insurance that would expect Enterprise to include in the reservation.

To be sure check either the rental agreement or directly with Enterprise given only they can confirm your coverage as named second driver given you will not of course be covered by your friends personal insurance.

as for travel insurance you should not come to Canada without it given you will not be in country long enough to qualify. Just having a PR card alone will not give you coverage as there are residency requirements .

Thanks - so you mean my friend should provide both our names to Enterprise and take motor insurance from them directly? I guess that is the easiest option.

I will get travel insurance right away. Any suggestions on providers or packages?
