hey everyone,
i'm currently going through the various websites and stumbled across this forum and wow, all this information sharing is greatly appreciated!
next year i'm getting married, and it really feels like the dream i didn't think i wanted is coming true. i met my partner in november 2017 in barbados and we'll be getting married in montreal (quebec) in late january/february 2019 as he'll be coming up on an eTA. at this time we'll also be moving into our first apartment and signing for a lease!
we were hoping to do an inland application since it seems faster to receive a OWP which would help out with the bills (i work at a bank and two other jobs and we'll be living in an extremely inexpensive area - very, very lucky) both here and back home. this has been our plan for quite some time, but now we're worried. at the moment a close family member is sick (someone who's lived in the same house as him for the better part of his life) and we're not sure of the prognosis. he's not a big fan of this family member, but i know he'd probably want to go back to help support his mother emotionally if this family member was to take a turn for the worse.
so here are my questions:
1 - since most of you seemed to get the OWP within six months, should we still apply for an extended stay at least 30 days before his scheduled to leave date or don't bother as he would have implied status?
2 - if it turns out that he would have to leave in an emergency once the application is started, what are our options? is the IRCC leniant in situations of sudden death in the family?
