Hi,

I'm new to the forum and just thinking about applying for an Inland vs Outbound application. I was wondering if my spouse gets a company transfer and a work permit in Canada, can he also do the outbound application at the same time?

Seriously confused on the best route to take. Does anyone know about the possibility of the OWP being extended beyond Dec 2016? Is there still time to qualify for that now if we move to Canada to do the inland processing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

For outlanders to get a work permit, your spouse's employer has to complete a Labour Impact Assessment and it would have to be sent with the WP application. If they are transferring him to Canada, they would have to complete paperwork anyway so he can work here.

That said, the inland-OWP program was highly successful according to publicly available independent reports that CIC completed and made available. They determined there is a need and a demand for it. They have extended it from 2014 and 2015. So they will likely extend again.

There is lots of time to file. They have to receive the application by December to process it (if it somehow was cancelled).

Thank you for the response!

My fiancé and I are figuring out when/where we should get married. He is in the states on a temporary work visa that expires soon and thinking about the company transfer. He has a valid visit visa to Canada.

Would you advise getting married in the states and then crossing to Canada and processing the outbound/inland application? Do you think there would there be any issue with that at the border?

Shouldn't be an issue in either place. For me, I would do Canada... but beware that some (Ontario for sure) provinces do have trouble getting marriage certificates to people on time. Eg: ours took 16 weeks (they couldn't find it, so we have to fill out the long form with our officiant). Otherwise all states and provinces are recognized.
