I've been reading these forums for almost a week trying to figure out the best way to go for my gf's PR status (also spent my fair time reading CiC). Story time...

Me and my girlfriend Rachel have been together for a year now and we've finally decided that we're gonna do what it takes to be together.
Our original plan was to get married in Canada in August on her next visit. We were just going to have a court marriage and take a short honeymoon. Afterwards we'd start working on an Outland Application together and she'd finish up the police report and medical when she got back to the United States. But now...
She was staying at a friends and paying rent but their landlord found out and now she has 2 weeks to leave. So what we're thinking is have her fly up here asap, have our marriage and honeymoon, then apply Inbound with an Open Work Permit (If that's possible). We can't afford her to live on her own down there but we can scrape by if she's able to live with me.

That's our current situation. She's currently looking for another place to stay but it's not looking good.

I'd just like some advice on what to do... never experienced anything like this haha. If you need any more info I'd be glad to help you help me (:

You could still apply outland, even if she was staying with you in Canada. That would be the quickest way, the current wait is 3 months for sponsorship approval + 11 months for PR status. She won't be able to work until she has PR status (unless an employer would sponsor her for a work permit)

If you applied inland, she could get an open work permit but it wouldn't come for several months.

You have to weigh your options. Can you scrape by on one income for a year?

If you apply inland, she will qualify for an open work permit once she receives stage 1 approval. Stage 1 approval is currently taking 11 months. So you're looking at an 11 month wait before she can work.

Your best bet since she's American is to apply outland. There is no open work permit available with outland. However the processing times are much faster and she could very well be 100% done well before the 11 month mark (my husband's application was processed in just four months).

Keep in mind that until she has PR, she isn't allowed to live in Canada - just visit.
