Inland Spouse Application in process but Passport will be expired soon

My husband is now under Inland Spouse Application process, Step 1 (initial assessment) is done and Step 2 is in process. However his passport will be expired on August, 2013; should he renew his passport in Canada? Our application is using current passport, is there any problem if renew it? If not renew the passport, how can he stay in Canada with expired passport if Step 2 still under process on August? On the other hand, he can apply working permit according to confirmation letter from initial assessment and what should be done if working permit granted but passport expired?

My passport will expire in Jan 2014, and i'm just like u, got step 1 cleared but step 2 is on going.. I plan to get back to my homecountry for a renewal of passport this March then I can be safe while waiting for the PR confirmation which i dunno how long to take.

U can renew ur passport here i guess, check out the consulate office here in Canada~ they should be able to do that for u!.. (for my case, i just want to get back to my home country also to visit my family so i choose to fly, though there could be risk, as inland applicants shouldnt leave the country while everything is in process)

For the Work Permit, i got it along with my AIP.. so i cant answer ur query here, maybe others can help.
