Hi Friends,

I'm in process of applying for wife's PR and have this important question - Can she travel outside of Canada for 1-2 months and return to Canada?
I found the below info from application guide:
"Leaving Canada can automatically cancel temporary resident status as a visitor, student or worker.

The person being sponsored has no guarantee that he or she will be permitted to return or re‑enter Canada if he or she leaves before permanent residence is approved. This is especially true if a Temporary Resident Visa is required to enter Canada."

Experts, any idea how often entry is refused when someone being sponsored (spousal inland) leaves Canada and returns after 1 or 2 months? She is currently on closed work permit till Jan 2016 and has got TRV till jan 2017. She is planning to go to India to finish her PhD from Oct to Dec 2016. Will she be granted entry on her return?

It's been said many times. It is a risk that you take. CBSA can refuse entry and then your application is deemed abandoned. Also, 1-2 months might be too long, because one of the requirements of inland is that the applicant and sponsor be living together in Canada. CIC could deem that you have broken that rule and refuse you.

Should apply outland instead, have her stay in Canada on the TRV until Sept, then have her return to India to finish her schooling. By that time, she should have her PR card already assuming you are a straight forward case with minimal red flags.

Inland is a horrible choice for a majority of applicants.
