Hi,

We lost everything in a fire in September, including documents like birth certificates, my spouse's passport, marriage certificate, etc. We are trying to figure out if we will need physical replacements of any of the documents to complete the process.

I think they are at the background check stage of things? My spouse already passed the medical exam.

Thank you!

The hard copy of documents parts are done for the immigration part. Only needed for SIN, Drivers License, etc.

I assume you submitted copies per the instructions with your application? If so, I'm not aware of them asking to see physical copies later, at least not routinely. Note: except passport of course, although that's for outland applications.

That said: birth certificates, marriage certificates - just order them from wherever. If they're from in Canada, it's mostly not that hard or long to get them, and if from abroad (and harder to get), you'll regret not having them later in future (probably).
