Inland common law sponsor ship. remaining legal within country

Hi I have a question regarding being sponsored inland as a common law partner, I hope someone here can shed some light on my situation

So we had applied before (for both PR sponsorship and common LAW) in august 2018. which ended up in a little disaster. I was then on a work permit and it took Immigration 7 months of radio silence (on which I was partly on implied status) to send the application back (to a wrong address) to us unprocessed because we made a mistake somewhere in the paperwork ( I only found out because I was enquiring about my work visa) I had to leave the country immediately because now my implied status was void and come back as a visitor. I haven't worked since

Now my partner and I send out another application (for both PR and the openwork permit) whilst im here on a visitor status. After a while we heard back from immigration confirming that they received the application ... yay our first win. now there is still no word on the open work application and I know I have to remain legal within the country for the duration of the PR application. Given my previous experience of no communication I am a bit worried. My visitor status will expire mid October and I am wondering If I should apply for an extension of my visitor status now before its too late ( in case I dont get the work permit on time) or leave the before mid October and return as a visitor once more.

sorry for the wall of text I am trying to put a little bit of detail in my situation and concerns

No harm in applying for an extension a week or so before your status expires if you haven't got the OWP by then.

Tell them that you have applied for sponsorship, and attach the confirmation that you received.

Thanks for your reply. Does it matter that they say that processing a visitor extension takes 90 days? Does it work like implied status and you are legal within the country until they make a decision?

Yes, you have implied status as long as you apply before your current status expires.
