Inland applicant leaving and coming back

So for those that were sponsored inland...i heard that if you leave Canada, it could be difficult to get another TRV to come back, and therefore, the application would be abandoned if you cannot make it back...

My question is..if one has a US visa...and a single entry TRV, that later got extended with a visitor record...can one leave Canada, to say, Pakistan, and then fly to the US, and re-enter Canada on the visitor record through a land border? How about the same scenario with an Open Work Permit?

No, this wouldn't work. If you have already received AINP and an open work permit, consider applying for a TRV. You may get it. Then you will be ok.

Do you mean it is okay to leave and come back to Canada once you get AIP and an Open Work Permit? Based on the current time, i should be set for AIP around April, and intend to leave Canada for about 3 weeks for some family matters back home in April as well, i applied for OWP with my application as well, and i have a multiple entry TRV which wont expire until October 2012. Does this mean i am good to go out and come back to Canada even without 2nd stage approval? Thanks

2nd stage approval is PR. The caution about leaving the country when applying inland is for those who would not be able to re-enter because they do not have a TRV. If you have a valid one that you are allowed re-entry.

What I had heard was that if you hold a work permit, study permit, visitor record, etc..you can travel to the US and back, even without a TRV...so if you go to the US, then travel overseas, than back to the US, and come back to the Canadian border, and show the work permit or visitor record, shouldn't that be enough to get back in?

You know when they swipe your passport it shows travel history? So the OP is not just travelling to the US, as mentioned in the Regs, but is also travelling to a 3rd country. I suppose they could try it and might get lucky but I wouldn't. And it's not necessary anyways as the OP has a TRV.

I'm with rjessome yet again. I think you're playing with fire if you try what you've suggested.

thanks rjessome and scylla, i tried to ask CIC about it, and they said they cannot guarantee re-entry, its up to the discretion of the immigration officer I dont know if i should risk it or not.
