Hi

My principal applicant husband and I will be doing his landing in Dec 2011. However, like most people we will be returning to the UK to settle our affairs and work commitments. We don't actually yet know what date we will actually come back to Canada to 'settle'.

Now the problem I have is, the GTF list that we bring with us in Dec during his landing might actually differ or be short of what we will actually be having shipped in 1-2 years time as we might accumulate used items during this time.

Should we keep the 'initial' landing GTF list 'vague / high level' as to allow us to fit anything we might accumulate between initial landing and settlement date?

Landing List Final List
Stamped by CBSA Packing list given to Removal Company + stamped CSBA list

Used clothes 4 boxes used clothes
Computers & equipment 3 computers, 4 monitors, 1 media station, plus whatever else we accumulate in the next 2 years

Should we list items on our initial 'landing' GTF list we haven't got yet but anticipate buying and bringing with us in 2 years time?

Hope this all makes sense!

Hi

Always list everything and anything that you might possibly want to bring and that way you are covered, you do not need to bring everything that you listed but I know for sure you can not add things later once the GTF is stamped.

hope this helps.

The landing list need to be very specific. You need to show the description of the item, whether shipped or carry-on, make, quantity, value for duty (in CAD), years of ownership. The final list is prepared by the shipping company (not you) for you to clear customs along with your original list, B4E and other shipping document when your shipment arrive in Canada. You also need to bring photographs proving you are bringing used items.

CBSA website has a clear definition who is consider settling in Canada. I would suggest you wait until the time you are ready to settle in Canada to hand in the form to CBSA and get it stamped (before your shipment arrive in Canada). Read that website for details.

As we are planning to 'land' and return to the UK after 3 weeks, are you saying that we don't have to complete GTF lists straight away?

I was under the impression customs asked for these when you first land as a PR or returning citizen.

Can we definitely wait until we come back to 'settle' next year, get our 'final & accurate' GTF list stamped and give a copy to our removal company?

Hi Darque

Where are you landing? I know pearson ask for the GTF list on your first visit, but i have seen other members saying otherwise for other airports.

Hi Darque

Montreal might be different to Pearson, because i know that many members landing have said depends on your POE if GTF list is requested on first landing.

Yes, if you read carefully in the website - it mentioned that people just land and does not or no intention to establish Canadian residency right away are not counted as settler. So you can wait until you come back to 'settle' next year, get your B4E + GTF list stamped, get your packing list and other shipping document from the shipping company.
