Hello,

My mother arrived in Toronto two months ago on Super Visa for 10 years. She is 54. She did high schooling back in India around 30 years ago.

She has a dream to do a job. I have already turned one of her dream into reality, but I want to fulfill this wish of her.

I want to know if she can apply for a work permit. If yes, What forms are required and what kind of job will best suit her.

You can even drop a message in my account if so.

Please do reply.

Hi, unfortunately this won’t be easy. First your mother has to find an employer willing to offer her a job. Then the employer has to get a positive Labour Market Opinion (LMO) from HRSDC/Service Canada, which requires the employer to prove that no Canadians could be trained or hired for the job. Then she’ll have to apply for a work permit.

Since your mother only completed high school, it’s likely she could only apply for lower skilled jobs. While these may be available at fast food restaurants and so on, she will have to prove that she’s qualified for the job in question when applying for a work permit. Has she held any jobs previously?

Also, consider that since she’s here on a Super Visa, if she applies for a work permit CIC/CBSA may believe that her true intention in coming to Canada was to work, not to visit her family. This could put her visitor status in jeopardy.
