Hi everyone - please could I be given advice. I am in Canada awaiting the approval of my permanent residence application. As such I am on a Visitor visa. Someone told me that the fact I have an online Etsy shop through which I sell artworks (that I have painted) constitutes "work" and will result in my application for PR being dismissed and / or deportation. Is this true? I have tried to find out info on the CIC website, but am stymied by all the info and can't find a relevant thread. I also write freelance copy - is this also going to jeopardise my application? Thank you very much.

You can't sell to anyone in Canada. If you sell to anyone in Canada this will be classified as working illegally.

Same goes for the freelance work.

Thank you, Scylla - but if I am selling outside of Canada - or writing for mags etc outside of Canada that's ok?

....sorry, pressed post too quickly. Is it better to shut my Etsy down for the time being? Im not certain I can "refuse to sell to Canadians" from my Etsy platform......?

No idea...

Selling outside of Canada is fine. I would avoid writing for magazines since they may have Canadian subscribers.
