Indian passport without electronic version

:'(My Indian passport have got validity till 2019 but it does not have electronic version of all the personal details (Issued in the 1999). My question is "Is it really needed to apply for reissue of passport to change it to electronic version"? Since i am starting on Feb 18th i am very much concerned about this...

Please help! any suggestions regarding this will be greatly appreciated!!

If you can get your passport to the new version, it is always better as you may not have any problem for travelling to other countries on visit visa. For Canadian PR visa, a passport with minimum 6 months validity would be enough. In case, in future the visa office insist that you should have a machine readable passport, you should get your passport changed. Otherwise the existing PP is OK.
