Apologies for long post.
We have been married for few years & my wife didn't change her surname till now, she still uses her father's surname. We are PR in Ontario. Now she is going to be eligible for Canadian citizenship soon.
We want to change her surname to husband's surname. For example,
Current name: Alice Green ( Green-- father's surname)
What we want: Alice Warne( Warne- husband's surname).
As per my understanding, these are options.
1. We change her last name in Indian passport (renew it) & change it in PR too plus all other documents before applying for Canadian citizenship. Then apply for Canadian citizenship after getting documents in new name.
2. We apply Canadian citizenship as it is and then change surname after getting it. But that might cause issues with OCI card later.
Would love to hear your ideas and experience.
