I am applying for my parents visit visa and just realized that my mothers parents last name in her passport are mis spelled. Instead of KORI, it is KARU. Is this going to be a big problem? Should I apply for a new passport?

You mean your mom's maiden surname is wrong in her passport.

The TRV application form requires you to enter her maiden name, alias, nickname, etc.... so, an incorrect maiden surname in her passport will be incorrect in CIC records too.

btw what is the maiden surname stated in her birth certificate and school leaving certificate?

No. My mothers passport does not have her maiden name. Her last name in the passport is same as my fathers last name. Her passport also has her parents full name. It's my mothers parents last name which is incorrect in the passport. Ideally this my mother'S last mane before marriage.

Her documents have the correct maiden name for her and her parents. but it is in the passport that her parents last name is Mis spelled.

As the passport is an official ID, it will be best to get a passport re-issued with the correct details

My mothers 10th grade certificate had the last name KARU and hence the passport was printed like that. This 10th grade certificate is also her DOB proof and has both her parents names. There is no way to change it now. so, even if I try to apply for a new passport, I will have to submit the same 10th grade certificate as proof.

There's no chance of a passport re-issue if this is the case.... the error should have been corrected at the school leaving stage.

It's not simple to correct it now.... affidavits, classified adverts in the state gazettes, etc etc.... it will be a time-consuming, lengthy process

Yes, it is very very lengthy process and I am not even sure if its possible since my grand parents are deceased now.

You may want to keep in mind a potential issue if you invite a maternal relative (for example, an uncle/aunt) in the future.... if their surnames are spelled correctly

There is a remote possibility for that.
