Hi there,

I am looking into the process to apply for my parents in 2019 right now.
Would anyone be able to provide some clarification about the Federal Income for sponsors? In particular this sentence – “You must provide your Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as proof that you meet the following minimum income requirements for taxation years 2017, 2016, and 2015.”

I just landed in March as a PR, and have been working full time since March (and I exceed the min income requirements and have some savings as well from previous jobs in other countries). So by 2019 Jan I will not have CRA Notice of Assessment for the prior 3yrs. Will this be an issue while applying? Am I still eligible to sponsor my parents?

Thanks,
S

You must meet the minimum canadian sourced income requirement for the prior 3 years of applying. Hence you will be first eligible to apply in 2021.

You must work 3 years as a PR before you can apply for parents sponsorship

I believe that to be incorrect. The income does not have to be earned as a Permanent Resident. You can also use the income from previous years earned as a Temporary Resident (TFW).

But OP just landed in Canada so in OP situation they will have to work 3 years before they can apply for the parents.

Believe you or your spouse (if cosigner) has to be PR for 3 to qualify unless in Quebec.

There is no requirement to be a PR for 3 years. A person can use income earned while here as a foreign worker to meet LICO, as long as they are a PR when they actually apply.
