Hello all,
So I am planning on marrying my Brazilian fiancé in Brazil in December. Our story in a nut shell is that she is currently living in Dubai and myself studying in Montreal.
I have been on the phone and checking the boards here, and I think I know all of what I have to do. One of the docs I need is an "in-lieu of certificate of non-impediment to marriage abroad", and just want to see if anyone has any experience with this.
I'm from Alberta so do I need to go through the provincial Albertan govn't or can I do this from Montreal?
I've been reading some other peoples' experiences here and it seems quite a lengthy processes. Since we'll only have 3 weeks in Brazil we want to give our power of attorney to my fiancé's relatives in Brazil to get the process going on our behalf ahead of time, so I need to send down my docs ahead of time.
Any info on how to apply for, or the quickest way to obtain an 'in-lieu of certificate of non-impediment to marriage abroad' would be greatly appreciated. I need to get it done, then translated, then stamped by the Brazilian consulate here in Canada.
Thanks guys!
