Hi,

Hoping some of the experts on the forum can help me out with a question. My spouse came to Canada in April as a visitor and crossed the border using his Nexus card. We decided to submit his PR application inland along with an application for an open work permit. I understand that will take about 4 months to be issued. My question is can be travel back to the US and return back to Canada? If he does this, what should he bring with him? What does he tell CBSA?

Once he gets his open work permit, can he travel back and forth between the US and Canada?

I am quite confused about this aspect.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

He can - but there is always some chance (no matter how small) that re-entry could be refused. The open work permit doesn't guarantee re-entry. Best to limit travel to only what's required. Again, he should have no issues re-entering since he's American - but it's not a 100% guarantee.

Thank you @scylla. do you know what he should travel with. Our lawyer said he should travel with full application and notorized letter he prepared for us indicating dual intent and understanding of pr process.
