Hi,

Could anyone tell, is it possible to import the car under Visitor Status with PR application under process. Have File under process.

What is process of doing the same. Also would like to know, would it be okay to switch license first.

Thanks.

If you import the car as a visitor, you will be subject to lots of taxes and duties. Also CBSA might inquire as to why a visitor wants to import a car, as "visitors" are not yet technically living in Canada yet.

You do not get to import anything for free until you actually land as a PR.

I have my PR inland application under process with file no from CIC. Wouldènt that allow to live in Canada with spouse?
It has been over 3 months, and need to convert to Canadian license as per province laws. Suggest what to do..

If you also submitted an application for OWP along with PR, then that allows you to stay in Canada as a "visitor" with implied status during the entire PR processing.

You will need to check with your province's drivers license department, to see what the steps and requirements are to get one.

If you drive your US car in Canada, it will need to be insured by a US insurance company until you land as a PR and can the officially import it. For inland applications, the whole process can take around 18 months or so until you get PR.
