Finally sent in our inland application with an open work permit application. Is there anything else my husband needs to do to maintain his status in Canada? He is here as a visitor (visa-exempt country) - 6 months ends in January.

Please let me know! don't want to miss anything!

Did he pay the correct amount for the OWP, which is $255 (NOT $155)?

Are all forms that were submitted the latest version, per CIC's website?

Did you ensure that all required signatures are in place?

If the answer to those questions is yes, and neither the Inland application or OWP is returned, he will not need to do anything to maintain his status.

I'm in the same situation, and i asked on several legal clinics,
they all told me the same, if they do not' return the application( any missing thing), i had implied status as visitor until a decision is made on my OWP application.

Yes, we paid $255 and checked the dates on the forms right before mailing. Also went through everything to triple check signatures - hopefully didn't miss anything.

If something does get returned, then what happens?

1. If a single form (from the Inland application) is returned, you simply send the corrected/updated form and maintain your spot in the queue.

2. If the entire application package is returned, you re-submit it with the corrected form and go to the `back of the bus'.

3. If the OWP is returned, you have to re-submit with whatever was missing/outdated.

Only # 2 and # 3 would possibly impact the implied status. If CIC received the updated application and/or OWP before the original [legal] status expired, he would still be ok.

If the entire package is returned after his visit expires, things get complicated. Then he's out of status. You can resubmit the application while he's out of status but then he won't qualify for the OWP pilot. You can wait and apply to restore his status - but restoration applications can take around four months to complete so you'd be looking at more delays.
