Help me changing nonsense law that punishes innocent people!
You probably know that... You go to school or have a job and pay taxes. Then one day you need to leave this country.. For a day, week or a month. Family emergency, vacation or just a shopping trip. All you need is a passport, right... Well not for everyone. If you are in "implied status" it is a different story. Even though you obey the law and pay taxes the government treats you like a criminal. You cannot leave the country. If you do you lose your status. And that means that you cannot continue studying, your work permit is no longer valid, you lose your health plan. They might not let you back in Canada. Besides tearing families apart it also has serious consequences for inland spousal sponsorship.
I brought up that nonsense to attention of my MP Bernard Trottier in August and we are supposed to follow up in October. I also contacted the Citizenship and Immigration minister Chris Alexander. No response yet...
My goal is to collect at least a couple of hundreds signatures to strengthen my voice when I follow up with with my MP and the government, or even with the media - in case the first route leads nowhere.
It is time to change this nonsense law!
