I just about have everything in order, ready to submit my application. However...I was wondering if there are immigration lawyers, particularly those in the Vancouver, BC area, that have reduced rates for checking over an already-prepared application. Since I am doing all the leg work, I simply want a lawyer to look at it and tell me if I need to do something different. During these strange uncertain times with unemployment as a possibility, I want to mitigate financial risk and not pay 4-5k for a lawyer to do it all and then suddenly the worst happens and I get laid off. I don't see that happening, but in the off chance it does, I would feel much more comfortable paying just to look over it. I know some firms offer a short consultation, but I'm looking for a bit more. Maybe a week's worth of their time to look over it, and then I will submit the application myself. Has anyone done this before?

Unfortunately, I don't think they will offer reduced rates. Since you haven't submitted your application yet, they will re-check your full EE profile and verify all the documents that you have prepared for submission.

I'm not aware of any lawyers who do these kinds of reviews. Lawyers will only agree to take on the full processing of the file. The $4-5K range is the going rate for this work. The reason why they don't take on reviews is because they are held to a high standard to ensure work they take on is correctly executed, etc. and can risk losing their license to practice. They can't do this if they're just doing a review - only if they take on the full processing of the application. So if you want to go the lawyer route, it's really the $4-5K or nothing.

Consultants do these types of reviews but have a lower level of expertise. You're probably better off doing it entirely on your own rather than hiring a consultant.
