Hi All,

My family would like to immigrate to Canada and would like to seek some advice. We have tried the online eligibility tool on the Canada citizenship and Immigration site, which states that I am not eligible to apply at this time. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and could provide any advice?

My brother lives in British Columbia with his Canadian wife and children, he has held dual UK & Canadian Citizenship for approximately 8 years and won a Masters & PhD scholarships during this time all of which he has now completed.

I would like to immigrate with my partner and 4 year old son. I have a BA hons Degree in Early Years and have appx 8 years management experience in day nurseries. I would like to continue in the childcare profession with a view to become a teacher. I was wondering whether a UK teaching qualification is sufficient to teach in British Columbia? Or if successful in immigration to 'top up' my degree in Canada? My partner is a Lorry driver and has a Heavy Goods class 2 license. He is willing to take any lorry driving tests needed to continue his profession in Canada if also successful.

My parents are also planning to immigrate but with our understanding they can go via family sponsorship?
Just wondering if anyone could offer any advice on why we aren't eligible on the online tool?

Many Thanks

Your brother and his wife could apply to sponsor your parents, assuming they meet the minimum income requirements. However that application would be for your parents only and would not include you since you are not a dependent.

Your brother can't sponsor you, as only dependent children/spouses/parents/grandparents qualify under family class.

So you need to look at other immigration streams, such as skilled worker. Each year Canada modifies the skilled worker categories based on what professions are more in demand. If your particular area of education/experience doesn't fall into the specific categories Canada is looking for at that time, then you wouldn't qualify to apply for PR.

Failing that, you could also check the Provincial Nominee programs, as each province in Canada can have different types of immigrants they are looking for. You can look up BC (and other provinces programs) here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/provincial/apply-who.asp

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the reply.

My parents have retired? Perhaps that may affect their sponsorship. They have heard about the supervisa also which they are currently looking In to.

I am not sure I meet the requirements. I was wondering if it may be a good idea to chat to an immigration lawyer in BC got some advice as I'm not sure my experience meets the requirements :(

No - the fact your parents have retired won't affect your brother's ability to sponsor them. He can certainly still do so.

However as Rob_TO explained, unfortunately sponsoring you is out of the question. Your family will have to qualify to immigrate independently. If you have at least one year of work experience as an early childhood educator, you should check out the Federal Skilled Worker program as an option for immigrating: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp

Hi there.
Thanks for your help. I have 8 years experience in private day nurseries working with 0-5 year olds. Five years of that being a manager. Do you think that would be eligible? X

I can't tell you that. You'll have to do some research to confirm. If you follow the link I provided you'll find the job code (NOC) for early childhood educators. You should then google that NOC and see how it's described by Human Resources and Development Canada and see if you meet the requirements.

It seems I have what's required on the noc4214. I wonder what's making me not eligible on the assessment tool. Wonder what would happen if I applied anyway

Hiya :)

I'm very much a noob with the whole application and now I'm so confused I'm lost. I would like move to Edmonton, Alberta to be with my partner. I've looked at the various options and don't know which would apply to me. I have no skilled trade but have 12 years experience in retail management. I also have a two year old child. I am a 30 year old British citizen. I have looked at the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, but I don't know which option applies to me.

Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated, a step forward to which route would apply to me and the process going forward.

Thank you in advance
