:) Hello

My name is Jenny and I'm planning on moving to Quebec, Montreal within the next two years. I'm now in the process of figuring out whether or not to hire a lawyer. According to the U.K High Commision my application time would be somewhere around 42-48 months if I'm to handle the application process myself. However, according to one lawyer in Montreal Quebec which I've been in contact with I should have my visa within roughly 18 months. Anyone with experience applying from Sweden, or even Europe?

Are you applying as a Quebec skilled worker? If yes, then it should take around 10 months, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/skilled-que.asp#europe

There is no preference given to applications handled by consultants so if you feel up to reading instructions and filling out forms by yourself, you don't need one. Otherwise, if you want to spend the money, get a consultant but google them first to make sure they are good. A bad consultant can mess up your application by missing deadlines etc. and you may not even know until it is too late because all communication goes through the consultant. If you do it yourself, you are the one in the drivers seat.

Thank you for your reply Leon. I've been thinking that I should do this myself but I do find the application process somewhat confusing in terms of immigration to Quebec. However, I would save some serious money if I where to do this myself and like you said; I would be in the drivers seat. Guess I have to just sit down and figure this out. ;D
