Hi folks, I am in dilemma regarding my education history. I started my program in Canada on 2014 and got graduation certificate on June 2016. However, the tricky part is I completed the program on August, 2015 but the graduation happened later. Which date should I put June 2016 or August 2015 for the course completion date question?

I had put my graduation date (June, 2016) instead of my course completion date (August, 2015) on Express Entry profile and got the ITA today, should I go with it or decline and correct the mistake and wait for an another draw, hopefully in July. Any recommendations and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and Peace❤

Your graduation is counted from the day your institution sent you a letter confirming that you had met the requirements to graduate.
Why would the date of your graduation affect your CRS?

Hi, it didn’t affect my CRS at all, however, I’m worried about the date I wrote on my EE profile. You see, I finished my two year program on August, 2015 but the graduation ceremony happened on June, 2016 where I was handed my diploma certificate and this is the date I had put it on my EE profile for the education start and finish question. So my question, is it acceptable to put my graduation ceremony date instead of my actual course completion date? I don’t wanna end up getting a rejection or worse a misrepresentation. Any suggestions???

First of all you know if you have a 1 year diploma or two year. If you put that correctly then ofcourse your crs will not change. Rest if there is any mistake in date, you can change it when filling post ita form and submit an LoE. It wont affect anything as your crs wont drop!

Now, graduation is always when you have completed all the course requirement and get a confirmation letter from the college. It is not the cermoney date. Ceremony could be 5 years later due to worldly problems, like in this pandemic.

All in all, do not decline ita If ur crs does not change no matter how big and stupid the mistake is!

Hi, first of all thanks for the clarification. My program was indeed 2years (4 semesters) in Canada. Yes, it was a silly mistake of me putting the ceremony date instead of the course completion date. I do aware that I will get the same questions post ITA before submission, however, I don’t want to create any discrepancy between pre and post ITA questions. Last thing I want is some officer writing me a misrepresentation for the simple date mistake even though the CRS remains the same. We’ve seen people getting rejection and misrepresentation for an unintentional and simple mistakes. Instead of taking that chance, I wanna to make sure I’m on right track with getting expertise advices from this forum. Peace!

The officer, as you call it, would be following established procedures and in the vast majority of cases, people get correctly rejected for failing to meet the requirements or for not supplying required documentation.

Here is the procedure for assessing discrepancies between EE profile and eAPR - I suggest you read it and decide for yourself if your situation meets the criteria for rejection:

With all respect to the officers. I have seen and heard people in this forum and outside getting rejection and misrepresentation for a small mistakes even there wasn’t any changes in the CRS score. Moreover, addressing the issue on LOE didn’t even help their case. Hence, I want to be sure I don’t end up being one of those guys before finalizing my decision.

BTW, the link you provided above has all the information I needed and I thank you for that!
