I live in South Africa. I am 56 years old and have been retrenched from my job with no compensation due to the main shareholder passing away. I have been without work for 7 months. Due to the countries affirmative action policy I am not even granted an interview for a job. I am not eligibale for unemployment either. Due to these circumstances I decided to start my own business. I have a unique idea and have been told that to open the business it has to be owned 51% by blacks. I am now expected to find the finance and then give 51% to blacks to open my business. This is discrimination against whites in my view and due to this I can’t find work or even start my own business. How am I supposed to live and support my family? Is there any way I can immigrate to Canada to get away from discrimination.

Kevin T;

It must be a painful experience for you. Nothing is as bad as feeling like a "second class citizen" in a country you call "home". It is also possible you can be in the "majority" in the place you call home and still can't shake the feeling of been a second class citizen. While your age will certainly set you back a couple of points on the assesment grid but nothing says you can't try.

The best place you can start your research from is www.cic.gc.ca, you can soak up the wealth of information there and decide which stream gives you the best advantage to apply. You can visit this forum from time to time to ask specific questions while you gather your document to file your case.

Good luck
