Hey folks,

I'm stuck in a bit of a dilemma, and I'll try to explain it briefly. I was born in country A, and my parents applied for Canadian PR when I was very young. While waiting to hear back on the PR -- my parents visited the US and we overstayed for a period of time (lack of knowledge at the time, family illness, etc) until we were approved by Canada. Upon approval, we moved to Canada, and became citizens while I was still a minor and have been citizens for a long time.

The questions are -- In IMM5540, Question 8 asks to list all residences outside of Canada along with their periods.

1) How far should I go back? 10 years? Until I was 18? Till Birth?
2) Should I list the US addresses that I remember? Does CIC care about the overstay?
3) If I list the addresses, will I need police reports from there? even if I was a minor then? I doubt it.

Thing is, I really don't want to open up the door to questions which may conflict with the original application my parents submitted back in 90's, nor do I want to be deceitful. I only want to answer the question for what its asking and what its intending on asking.

Appreciate all the help.

Usually, you only need to go back 10 years or since your 18th birthday. I don't think it matters where you were or what you were doing as a minor. But you can indicate whatever you remember if you want. It won't change much, if they don't need the information they will just ignore it.

agreed, but in case of VO would request later I would start from when you were 18 year old (I did write all my address on the separate sheets of paper ) also, I read in the forum some applicants was requested to fill the gap since they were 18 yr old.

2. it does not have to exact address (ex- you remember st. name but not exact address, then you can write whatever you remembered)

3. you do not need a police check in foreign country when you were minor, but you need it when you lived in foreign country more than 6 month after 18 yr old.
