I live in Canada and I am sponsoring my wife from India under the Family Class Sponsorship program. Our marriage was an arranged marriage. I met my spouse through relatives. We were introduced at a restaurant where we sat and talked for ours. We got along perfectly fine and I was really interested in her as much as she was interested in me. Then the following day, my mother called my spouse's maternal uncle (the one who arranged the meeting) and proposed that I am interested in getting married to my spouse. So we had a "roka" or engagement ceremony the second day after the first meeting because I had to leave for Canada the next day. Then we had about one year of courtship before we were married. Now the question is:

12. Who proposed? I wrote that my mother proposed on my behalf. My spouse's uncle presented the proposal to my spouse, who accepted it and then he informed my mother about her decision.

13. When and where? I don't know what to write for where. Should I write on the phone?? Our engagement took place in a hotel banquet hall.

Also, does anyone think the VO would look at this and wonder how we got engaged after one day of meeting each other? We did have one year of courtship though.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated!!

In my opinion, as your marriage was arranged in the "who propsed" box I would write that it was arranged and then detail how the arrangement took place.

When and where? Say when and where you both were when the marriage was formally announced and then state again that it was arranged.

The forms are generic so yoh have to answer them to the best of your ability.

That's my opinion but that's all it is, an opinon. Maybe wait for more experienced and/or people in a similar situation to get back to you.

Good luck.

I would suggest you the same as Gary did.
As the VO know Indians (esp) do arrange marriage so it would not be a difficult for them to understand. Answer them in both questions that your marriage was arranged and would say tell them the truth about how everything happened so that (if incase) they conduct interview and ask about how guys met (which they always ask that also in detail), you guys can tell them easily .

Thank you! That's very helpful
