Having trouble with question 9. Membership or association with organizations

What should I include.....church, school club????? or what

Thanks

This has been a head scratcher for many here...including myself. In the end, I did list things like The Boy Scouts. ;D

I can't imagine how that's going to be used in determining my eligibility for PR, but...being `Mr. Literal', I had to include that in my form.
I also listed a one month membership in a professional union (musician), because...I was a member.

How about religious affiliation......

Nothing wrong with being honest. My father was member of Lions Club, we put that

I am not how religious affiliation is impacted but the more you write, the more it takes for background checks - upto you

True, but if you omit something and CIC [somehow] finds out about it, it could jeopardize your entire PR application.

Might be worth calling CIC and `hope' that you get a correct answer. What is their definition of a membership or association with an organization?

Agreed. That question can ONLY hurt you, it can never help your case. It is not defined properly what qualifies as an "organization" so would leave it blank in most cases. Putting in boy scouts or your local church won't hurt though.

They are checking to see if people put down organizations that may implicate them or give reason for a more scrutinized security check. i.e. if someone puts any organization that is or ever was remotely linked to violence/terrorist or other questionable activities, they would be in trouble.

I am sponsoring my US husband and. He is 62 and I am 58. Honestly......who can remember. :o

Agreed!

Was he ever a member of a labor union (i.e. Teamsters, UAW, IBOE, etc.)?

What about:

Elks, Moose, Masons, VFW, community groups (like neighborhood watch)?

It would seem logical that if he ever filled out an application (or paperwork of any kind), he could be a member of that organization.
Gathering on a Saturday morning with a group of people to hike, shouldn't be considered an organization...right?!?! ???

Don't let this one question discourage you, because...you're likely to find at least one more (perhaps on another form) that will be equally vague.

Oh...and don't forget about his membership with AARP, if applicable. ;D

Is your husband from Kentucky? That's where my family roots began. :)

Hmm, when they can ask 70 year old parents for activities since age 18 - then....

Really....his parents are. His dad from Hickory and mom from Henderson. They moved to Evansville IN and then to Gary. We are in Knoxville TN now
