IMM 5540 Question

Hello

I am sponsoring my husband and we both live in the US. While filling out the Sponsor Questionnaire - IMM5540E, I came across a few things that I have a question about and your help would be appreciated.

I am self-employed as a freelance writer from July 2013 to present.

Question 6 - Are you currently employed? Yes or No (self-employed is also employed, i think should be yes?)

Question 7 - Give details about your current and previous employers within the past five (5) years:
Answer: from 2013-7 to Present, Employer: Self-employed; Occupation: Freelance Writer;

You can put down "Yes" and Self-Employed. Are you an incorporated or unincorporated business? In my case it was an incorporated business. I put the start date as the day the business was established. The checklist asks for specific information if you are self employed.

You should firstly get the option C statement from CRA for your most recent tax year. I had a letter from my accountant stating my current income and my corporations income. Also if you are incorporated I would include a business search from the registry that shows you as the director.

From your post you appear to be unincorporated. You will need to somehow show your statement of activties showing your Cash flow etc. There is no minimum income required. Some people have gone to the extent of showing their bank statements that shows cash flow which might be overkill.
