Hi everyone -

First up, thanks to everyone who has replied to my incessant questions. I feel much more clued up about everything...

However, what I'm beginning to realise is that my application may be denied. I have been an IT Manager in the past, for nearly 7 years, but the company I did that for folded in 2004 - having never thought at the time that i'd be trying to move to Canada, I haven't kept any real documentation. I'm still friends with one of the directors, who said he'll be happy to vouch for me, but i don't think that by itself will be enough for my application....

Since then i've been contracting through my own limited company doing more technical roles (NOC 2172). Sure, some have had management elements, but my contracts don't have 'Manager' in the job title...

SO...

1. This crack down on skill requirements happened in Feb 08, right? I'm still going to apply, but if I get turned down i'm hoping to be able to reapply when the requirments loosen a bit - will I be able to do this? Or is it one strike and out?

2. Does anyone think that the skill requirements will loosen at some point? Or do you think they'll be fixed from now on? (Discuss!)

Again, many thanks.
Best

Rup,

In my opinion, your application will not be denied. If you cant produce an employment certificate for that IT Manager Experience for 7 years, you can make a written declaration stating that you worked in this company..so and so... , explain circumstances why you can't secure a job certificate, and have it under oath. Approach a lawyer for this. Ask then an affidavit from your friend who is a director and is still connected with the company, stating that He knows you and He can attest that you have been working in that company for 7 years. Have this affidavit under oath as well. And in submitting provide a business card of this director friend indicating his position in the company.

...I am not an expert, I just learned this from the advise of senior members in this forum given to applicants who had a similar case as yours...

...Senior members please do make your share...

You can apply as many times as you want but there is no guarantee that the rules will loosen again any time soon. In the old system where everybody could apply, the waiting time in some countries was up to 6 years. That is something they wanted to fix so the system was changed to make it easier for people to immigrate that immigration along with the industry decided that they needed, as opposed to having them wait in line behind a lot of people they didn't feel they needed.

If you can get a former manager to vouch for you, better if you can get 2 than 1, I don't see any reason why they would question that. Just write a cover letter explaining the situation, that the company is no longer there. I am sure this happens all the time.
