then what other options do I have for emigrating to Canada from the UK?

Is it a case of getting a job and then getting a work permit? How does this process work?

If you can get somebody to hire you as a web designer which is probably a skilled job, even if you don't have a degree in anything, you might have a chance to get in on a PNP (provincial nominee program). Another option, go as a semi skilled worker in BC or AB and try to get in on PNP there but you might have to work in a hotel, kitchen, whatever is under their program. Another option, go as a student, take a 2 year course and then get a work permit and apply through PNP or CEC (Canadian experience class). Another option, get a degree in the UK and then apply. Skilled worker program is changing. They will soon post a new list of professions. You can pick from that list for your degree, get one year work experience after your degree and then apply as skilled.

Thanks Leon - some useful information there.

Looks as though PNP is the route I will need to go down. Vancouver - a good place to live?

I am visiting Canada in March so will be able to gather more information. How does having a job there before migrating work then? If the application process can take 4 years - surely an employer doesn't keep the position there for this amount of time?

What is the processing time for PNP actually?
