I am new here in this forum. I only have little confusions re my IELTS Score.
I have got 6.5 total score.
Listening 6.5
Writing 6.5
Speaking 6.5
Reading 5.5

As the principal applicant and with the new rules, should i re-take my exam?as our agency is asking me to do so and saying that if you have 5.5 in any ability, you will not be eligible for FSWC and the band score should be 7 and above. Is this really true? Pls advice me... Thank you

Guys,,, Pls give me some info...

Hi

I think that is not true..if you are accumulating immigration required meeting point that is 67 with the achieve band score of IELTS it will work. Let the other seniors commented on it.

Hi Ash. Thanks for the reply.
That is what I am thinking as well. First, in the IELTS scoring, as what ive seen, you can still accumulate 4 points if you have 5.5 in any module. lower than 5.5 will be ineligible. Also, our agency is saying (actually i am inquiring with 2 agencies now here in dubai) both said i should have 7 as total band score with NO 5.5. They are not accepting my application either.. I dont know what to do now.

Hi!

Minimum IETLS should be 6.0 in each band (listening, reading , writing and speaking). Overall band doesn't matter. Good luck to you..

HOW TO ESTIMATE LANGUAGE POINTS FROM IELTS SCORES (UPDATED)
(under the proposed FSWC program)

Given the number of questions on calculating language points, I put together the following tables. Just look up your IELTS band for each section and add up the FSWC points.

Listening
IELTS CLB FSWC POINTS
5.5 or less <=6 Not eligible for FSWC
6.0 7 4 points
6.5 7 4 points
7.0 7 4 points
7.5+ 8+ 5 or 6 points (depending on where cut-off is defined for CLB 8 vs CLB 9 equivalency,
IELTS 7.5 is 5pts and IELTS band(s) approaching 9.0 would be 6pts)

Reading
IELTS CLB FSWC POINTS
5.5 or less <=6 Not eligible for FSWC
6.0 7 4 points
6.5+ 8+ 5 or 6 points (depending on where cut-off is defined for CLB 8 vs CLB 9 equivalency,
IELTS 6.5 is 5pts and IELTS band(s) approaching 9.0 would be 6pts)

Writing
IELTS CLB FSWC POINTS
5.5 or less <=6 Not eligible for FSWC
6.0 7 4 points
6.5+ 8+ 5 or 6 points (depending on where cut-off is defined for CLB 8 vs CLB 9 equivalency,
IELTS 6.5 is 5pts and IELTS band(s) approaching 9.0 would be 6pts)

Speaking
IELTS CLB FSWC POINTS
5.5 or less <=6 Not eligible for FSWC
6.0 7 4 points
6.5+ 8+ 5 or 6 points (depending on where cut-off is defined for CLB 8 vs CLB 9 equivalency,
IELTS 6.5 is 5pts and IELTS band(s) approaching 9.0 would be 6pts)

The FSWC points assume they continue using IELTS and that the 'equivalencies' stay similar based on:

In the proposed FSWC plan:
CLB/NCLC 7: 4 points per ability
CLB/NCLC 8: 5 points per ability
CLB/NCLC 9: 6 points per ability

and that previously (per OP-6):
Basic was given by CLB/NCLC 4 or 5 gave 1 point per ability up to 2 points max
For IELTS test results received on or after November 28, 2008, that was equivalent to:
Listening Reading Writing Speaking
4.5 - 5.0 3.5 - 4.5 4.0 - 5.0 4.0 - 5.0

Moderate was approx. CLB/NCLC 6 or 7 and gave 2 pts per ability
Listening Reading Writing Speaking
5.5 - 7.0 5.0 - 6.0 5.5 - 6.0 5.5 - 6.0

High was CLB/NCLC 8 +
Listening Reading Writing Speaking
7.5 - 9.0 6.5 - 9.0 6.5 - 9.0 6.5 - 9.0
Approx. CLB/NCLC 6 or 7

NOTE: This updated chart clears up the areas where the previous chart had uncertainty (e.g., 'maybe' categories for lower ranges) based on the OP-25 chart in section 9.7 (much clearer than the ranges in OP6!) It is now clear that the minimum score for CLB Level 7 is 6.0 across the board (not 6.5 for listening as I had estimated using linear distribution within the range)

"There are two new steps to the new selection system. First, applicants will have to demonstrate that they meet the minimum language threshold, which is level 7 of the Canadian Language Benchmark assessment system. Applicants will be able to get a language assessment from existing agencies designated by the Minister and listed on the CIC website."

Note: Now, I don't know if that means IELTS cut off is re-set as 7. May be this is what your two consultants in Dubai were talking about!

Dear cocknbull,

All the links you provided are associated with Federal Skilled 'Trades' Stream Applicants which is different from Federal Skilled 'Worker' Applicants. Federal Skilled Trades Stream applicants can start applying in Jan 2, 2013 where as Federal Skilled Worker Class applicants can start applying only by May 4, 2013. Is dancingqueen26 applying under Trades Stream or Worker Category? Thanks

Dear ASK,

My links refer to FSWC (federal skilled worker class) which is going to open on May 4, 2013 and

I guess she is planning to apply under FSWC which is going to open on May 4, 2013

Federal skilled trades scheme (FSTC) requires a job offer or certificate of qualification which is difficult to obtain.

My guess she is going for FSWC

Thanks
