IELTS score is 6.5 ,Job code is 2171- eligible for PR

Hi all,

I have been working as an Application Developer (Work Permit says Computer System Analyst) for 2.7 yrs in Toronto. My IELTS score is 6.5

Listening - 6.5
Reading - 6.5
Speaking - 6.5
Writing - 6

I have completed my Master of Engineering in Applied Electronics. My Job code under NOC is 2171

Please let me know if I have to take my test again? If so, what should be the overall score under this category and individual split ups.

CIC guidelines for NOC A IELTS score requirement reads as ...
" 6 for any one of the language abilities, 7 or higher for any other two of those abilities and 8 or higher for the remaining ability,"

You have scored 8 in two streams and 7 in two streams. So, your scores are sufficient to proceed.

Thanks. But still I have the doubt because i work in a Software Company -Telecom Domain.

My initial WP says Embedded SYS Software Designer, not sure of NOC code but more likely 2173

Second WP says Software Products Developer, not sure if NOC code but more likely 2174

Current WP says COMPUTER SYSTEMS ANALYST.

I heard that I must need 7 inorder to apply and for 6.5 there are more chances of rejecting. Is it so?

Hi Preeti,

Even I had the same confusion with the NOC Codes. It's different in different WP's and I have applied as Application Programmer using NOC code 2174 as my duties match with this Title. My current WP says COMP ANALYSTS AND CONSULTANTS.

Preethi... 7 what you are saying is the CLB equivalent and not IELTS score itself.
You are good to apply.

The best thing for you would be to apply under 2171 (Computer Analysts & Consultants) which also covers the activities you have performed in other roles.
