I found CELPIP to be the easier exam. But both tests are accepted, it's up to you to choose.

There is no "better". Both are acceptable for CEC.
The question is which is easier to pass? I believe I'd still say IELTS.
I am bias with IELTS cause I have not tried CELPIP. But CELPIP is through the computer. So you would be doing the exams with the computer .... from Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking.

I haven't tried IELTS but CELPIP is super easy. Though, you need to practice using IELTS study material but if you are comfortable using computer, then my two pence is to go with CELPIP.

I did both and I'd say it is easier to pass speaking test with human rather than with PC... From other parts of the test, CELPIP probably easier

I have completed CELPIP in person and I have used training book and CD for IELTS.

I find CELPIP much easier in reading section where was very easy to find answers in the text given, while reading/understanding/answering in IELTS is much more complicated and complex.
Writing and listening sections are more or less the same.
I find speaking on CELPIP harder - recording your answers on computer without any feedback is much different from two way conversation with the living person. With CELPIP you need to prepare you answers in advance and be very careful with timing.

Also timing in general is very important in CELPIP - you have predetermined time in which you you need to finish different sections and subsections of the test. You must be careful not to run out of the time.

I have done the CELPIP . its very easy. but for writing exam they ask you to write about a topic they give you for 175 and 200 words. I would suggest you to write atleast minimum 300 / 400 words essay respectively. Or else you will fail. I failed in the writing exam because of this.

Hi,

I took the CELPIP. I got the highest score 5H in everything, I have been speaking English since kindergarten though so I found it all very easy. Do not follow the advice to exceed the word count for the written part. I was exactly within the word limit for both the written letters. Follow all their instructions carefully. My best advice to you is not to panic they do not ask you anything crazy it's just the basic use of the language. If you are nervous do the practice tests.

The only thing I would not recommend CELPIP for is that you can hear everyone else around you speaking during the Speaking part so that can be either quite intimidating or quite distracting. If you were already nervous it makes for quite a bad combination. For that reason only it might be better take IELTS if you are easily distracted.

Yes, I don't know where you got the idea that "you will fail" for following the instructions.

Don't worry about being distracted during the speaking part. The recommendation is to keep wearing the headphones during the speaking part, and this forms a pretty effective seal around your ears.

i have my personal experience. I had done the exam thrice. i didnt take any coaching to pass finally. I passed in all other category except writing for the initial two times.

My first exam result

Listening 5L Effectiveproficiency
Reading 4L Adequateproficiency
Writing 3L Developingproficiency
Speaking 4L Adequateproficiency

Second time i got

3H in writing and rest all same

Third time finally i passed

Listening 5H Effectiveproficiency
Reading 4L Adequateproficiency
Writing 4H Adequateproficiency
Speaking 4H Adequateproficiency

All i did was writing a very big essay with 350, 450 words.

may be you people are good in English and got the right mark at first attempt.

I reviewed for IELTS before but I took CELPIP.

CELPIP is very easy except for the speaking part. While the questions are easy to answer, the time limit and getting used to recording your answer is quite a challenge. Just make sure you take the practice exams and you will surely do good. I missed the last question in the speaking test and I was nervous the entire eight days of waiting for the results. I was so happy that I got 5H in all categories except for Speaking where I got 5L.
