Hi all
Specially Seniors Like PMM, BC Guy, Leon and others to mention.

I need to clerify that I alraedy have a 7.0 Band Score in the IELTS - Acedemic.
Will it be accepted in place of say IELTS - General at Band 7.0 by the Assessor of my FSW application or I will have to write again IELTS - General.

I will appreciate your quick and early response.

i think it may be accepted. however you'd better take the general in case you are asked to submit results for general. taking the test takes time and the result is usually valid for 2 years. i think you should go ahead and take the general just in case....

i submitted results for 2 general tests (band 8.5) and one academic (band 7.0). In addition, I submitted a letter asking for a waiver of the English language requirements based on published articles, theses, etc.
(copies of the articles and theses were attached to the letter).

i hope this helps.

Thank you for your kind reply.

It implies that you say that I should take General in addition to the Acedemic Module?
I have learned from this web site that the Acedemic Module is something Plus of the General Module i.e. Acedemic Module = General Module + EXTRA KNOWLEDGE.

Is this true?

Do I need to take the same valid test again - can somebody comment?

That is a good question. I am confused here why dont CIC specify in their requirements which IELTS either general or academic do they require ?

Btw is scoring higher band in general or academic is easier ?

And secondly will the Ielts of AEO or ETS will help us make good score ?

i feel certainly academic is far more superior and it must hold good to immigration too , the score of 7 is good coz immigration needs score of 6

both test two different things though..while academic is generally more difficult, it does not focus much on using english for everyday life. General is best suited for that assessment. That said, I am sure you can make a valid argument to use academic. Also, note that while IELTS says their tests are valid for 2 years, CIC only considers the validity of the test for one year.goodluck

Cut from the Buffalo Guide for FSW applications

Approved language tests
You can arrange to take a language test from any of the following approved organizations.
English Language Testing Organizations
IELTS: International English Language Testing System
The University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate, IDP Education Australia: IELTS Australia and
the British Council administer this test.

Note: IELTS has two options for the reading and writing tests: General Training and Academic.
You must take the General Training option.

This is their key word written in fine print "you must"

A friend of mine presented academic IELTS and got 7.0... he presented this to CIC for the federal process and did not have any problem... no questions asked... I believe the academic version is harder specially in reading and writting...

PMM & others

I request for your experienced comments on this issue since this needs your exprt opinion

Please

i suggest you go and take the GENERAL test to avoid any problems. If the ACADEMIC was accepted at one office, it does not mean it would be accepted elsewhere. To be safe, register for the GENERAL test and take it. It is very easy...and you would save yourself time..
