IEC working holiday visa - eligibility?

Hey

So am a 35 year old Australian/British dual citizen (born in London, UK). Turn 36 in March.

Am I right to understand that I have until March next year (before I turn 36) to apply?
How long would I then have before I need to arrive in Canada? Also are there any restrictions on work for the 2 years, like time working all up or time with one employer?

You have until March next year to be selected out of the pool and apply. I believe you are usually given a year to arrive in Canada.

It's an open work permit so you can work for any employer you want to.

Note that the UK program is always way oversubscribed, you'll likely have better luck with Australia. Also note the program is currently closed due to COVID-19 but that's obviously just temporary.

Thanks! I think the UK program cuts off at 30 too so definitely applying as an Australian, understand that Australia have unlimited/uncapped entries?

Yes, you're right. UK is 30. So that's out.

All of the programs have a cap. There is no normal time that it takes to be selected. It's a lottery. Some are selected immediately, some wait a while before they are selected, and some are never selected.

So if im thinking of going there first half of next year I should probably put in for it as soon as it opens up? Maybe late this year early next?

Any ideas on how long you have to apply once selected?

Yes, you should submit yoru profile as soon as the program reopens. I believe it takes around 2 months normally to get the visa. However it may be longer once the program reopens due to residual delays from COVID-19.

No idea as there is a back log from 2020 since invitations stopped being issued in early 2020. Processing is about 12 months. Depending on travel restriction, they may delay opening the pool. Right now, those who have been approved for IEC have to have a job offer to be allowed into Canada.
