Hi There,

I am a Canadian citizen and I have applied to sponsor my American Husband to come to Canada (outland application)
I filed April 28th, 2014 and still no word. We are losing our patience with waiting after 3 years of being apart and driving back and forth. My question pertains to him moving here while we wait. I recently stumbled across the SWAP to Canada program which gives American students an IEC visa for up to one year and am wondering if he is able to apply while he also has a residency application?
He is a full time student at Colorado State global University. He is sick of working in his small american town where there are no job opportunities and wants to come be with me in Toronto while we wait but he also would like to be making money. Please let me know! thank you!

Applying for a work or study permit does not affect your PR application. So go ahead and apply.

You applied on April 28, 2014. It's normal that you haven't heard anything yet. Sponsorship approval takes almost 50 days right now and step 2 will take between 6 and 15 months through Ottawa. So relax and be patient ;-)

I thought since we applied outland there is no way for him to legally be here unless he is a visitor?

No, work permits give you a legal status as well. I was here on a work permit for 2 years and filed for PR on between
